If
you missed last Sunday’s services you missed Rondale Banks giving his
testimony. It was powerful, touching and funny. (All but his baptism.) The part “made in God’s image” was priceless
and powerful, and where he talked about finding God’s purpose for his life made
us all stop and think. Everyone has a
testimony. God always give us something to say. If you missed it go our website
and listen to it.
We
have finished up the Book of Genesis and will be starting a study on Psalm 23.
It is one of the most familiar passages of Scripture in the Word of God. Its
familiarity is only rivaled by John 3:16. For nearly thirty centuries the 23rd Psalm has been one of the most beloved
passages in the whole Bible. There are only 118 words in this great Psalm, but
sometimes we miss what it is all about. I hope to do an in-depth study on these
six verses. The Psalm was written by the
would-be king of Israel, David, the son of Jesse, who spent much of his early
life tending to the sheep of his father. Psalm 23 contains a short yet
beautiful portrait of our relationship with God. It promises comfort and
protection to those who remain close to the Shepherd and demonstrates how our
spiritual needs are met in the Lord.
Interestingly, it is written not from the perspective of David as the
shepherd, but from the perspective of a sheep and his relationship with the
shepherd. The idea of the sheep and shepherd relationship
is taught in the Word of God to describe the relationship between believers and
their heavenly Father. Psalm 95:7 “For he is our God; and we are the people of
his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
